Job overview

We are seeking an inspirational teacher of English to join our school.

Lea Manor High School is an 11 – 16 mixed comprehensive in Luton.  Our recent Ofsted in December, 2013, stated:

‘Classrooms are often vibrant and stimulating environments, for example the music and drama rooms. This helps students become interested in the lessons.’

‘Students behave consistently well in class. They enjoy their lessons and find the work interesting. They participate with enthusiasm in discussions. In group activities, students work positively with all their classmates, not just their best friends.’

We are seeking an inspirational teacher of English to join our school.  English Literature goes hand in hand with language and therefore they are taught alongside each other at Lea Manor.  Students are introduced to a range of poetry, modern novels and literary texts throughout their Lea Manor journey, and we endeavour always to bring these to life through the use of modern technology.

To help bring English to life, we regularly use real life contexts to make content applicable to students in a changing world.  Therefore, alongside traditional methods of teaching, we use media resources, drama activities, group discussions and independent research to ensure that students are engaged in, and excited about, their learning.

Recently refurbished, our classrooms are colourful, innovative and have the latest ICT equipment.  A state of the art theatre gives us the opportunity to develop confident young people who engage in their lessons, look to learn more and have clear aspirations.  We put learning at the centre of what we do and our expectations are very high.

Everyone works as a team and this passion has given us a proven track record of success with middle leaders giving them the opportunity to develop their leadership style.  Our facilities allow us to offer a subsidised gym with a swimming pool, laptops for all staff and regular specialist CPD.

This is an ideal opportunity for an NQT or an experienced teacher seeking a new challenge.

Lea Manor High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS.

Ofsted report

“Students make good progress and achieve well. This is because teaching, typically, is good, and teachers are ever-alert to any individual who is falling behind. The school gives good support to disabled students and those with special educational needs. They are catching up with the standards reached by other groups of students. Students enjoy their lessons. The headteacher’s ambitious vision for the school is clearly communicated so that the collective efforts of staff and students are sharply and constructively focused. School leaders know what the school is doing well and are quick to identify areas for improvement. Their actions are improving the quality of teaching and learning.”
