Teacher of English

Full time permanent position commencing September 2017

Salary – United Learning Pay Scale (competitive)

We have an opportunity for an outstanding English Teacher to join the English Faculty at William Hulme’s Grammar School, Manchester’s most over-subscribed school and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country.  WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1300 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.  The Academy has just opened a brand new 2 form entry Primary Phase building and is nearing completion of a huge expansion project which will see the opening of a brand new Sixth Form Centre in September and this is a very exciting time to join the school.

Reporting to the Head of the English Faculty, you will be responsible for teaching English at Key Stages 3 and 4 and the ability to teach English to A level is desirable.  You will be an outstanding teacher, delivering consistently good and outstanding lessons, an excellent team player with the highest standards of professionalism and expectations of students.  You will have up to date subject knowledge and a track record of success in maximising student progress across all key stages.  As well as being an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about the teaching of English you will also need to demonstrate a commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school. Within the English Department, a large range of activities take place such as theatre visits, debating and academic support sessions.

English is a very successful and high achieving faculty with outstanding GCSE results.  In recent years the Raiseonline report has indicated English courses at KS4 are performing significantly above national standards.  The uptake of English courses at A-level is strong.  The latest Ofsted Report (April 2014) stated that “the progress that students make in the secondary phase of the Academy is currently, and has been for at least three years, outstanding, particularly in English and in Mathematics”.   Our students achieve outstanding English results, well above national averages and are commended by Ofsted. The English Faculty is well resourced and most teachers benefit from their own teaching classroom.

William Hulme’s is part of United Learning, a leading group of over 50 academies and independent schools.  This enables us to offer you a comprehensive induction programme and unrivalled support and career development opportunities to ensure you achieve your career ambitions and aspirations.  Through the United Learning Institute Portal, employees have access to a wide-range of CPD and the opportunity to share good practice with peers across the Group.  Employees of United Learning are offered a number of employee benefits through its reward scheme, including salary sacrifice schemes such as childcare vouchers, cycle to work schemes which offer tax and NI savings to you.  In addition there are over 6,000 offers and discounts on top brands and local retailers.

To apply, please complete the online application form by clicking the 'Apply' button.

Closing date: Thursday 11 May 2017

Interviews: Friday 19 May 2017

The school is fully committed to the safeguarding of children and all staff will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and full child protection/safeguarding training. United Learning is an equal opportunities employer.
