Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding English teacher to cover maternity leave for 1 year. The successful candidate will teach the Department’s curriculum at Key Stage 3, IGCSE and at A Level and be someone who will share the school's passion for encouraging all pupils to work towards their maximum potential.

This successful and talented department consists of 11 teachers who undertake a range of responsibilities throughout the school. It is well resourced and teachers are accommodated in classrooms equipped with electronic whiteboards and audio visual equipment.

We teach Edexcel English and English Literature IGCSE. Our current cohort of Y12 and Y13 pupils are undertaking Edexcel A level English Literature.

The Department aims to promote the engagement and enjoyment of English beyond the classroom and we use London as a rich and vibrant resource. Across all years, pupils are given the opportunity to go on theatre trips. There is a thriving Creative Writing Society for KS3 pupils, English Society for Y12 and Y13, and wider reading initiatives and debating opportunities for all years. This year, we have run events for World Poetry Day and creative writing competitions to encourage engagement with literature and individual writing.

The Department is creative, friendly and forward-looking and welcomes new ideas and practice. Department meetings are held weekly and promote the collegial and reflective working practices of the department.

Results are strong throughout the Department, but particularly outstanding were this year’s IGCSE results: 52% of our English Language candidates scored a 9, with 91% of our students scoring 7-9.

Closing date: Monday 3 December 2018, 08.00am

Interviews will be held week commencing Monday 10 December 2018
