We seek to appoint a qualified, driven and successful Teacher of English. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced or newly qualified teacher (ECT) who has a passion for English, can teach creatively and can inspire pupils. You will have evidence of excellent classroom practice and high expectations of pupil attainment and behaviour.

The English Department at St Bonaventure’s is a consistently high achieving department – in 2022 we achieved 85% 9-4 in GCSE Language and 87% 9-4 in Literature. 

We desire to create critical thinkers who are confident enough to comment on the human condition and the wider world, to engender a passion for literature and to equip young people with the tools to articulate their ideas clearly, to flourish creatively and to embrace the power of language. 

We place a high value on extending and enthusing our learners through subject-based activities that go beyond the curriculum including through our participation in Old Vic New Voices Schools’ Theatre Club and our active involvement in Newham borough’s Every Child a Theatre Goer initiative. 

We believe that expert subject knowledge is the bedrock of all outstanding English teachers and we staff who are active members of the school Teaching & Learning Forum and offer a range of opportunities for internal and external subject-specific CPD. 

We expect that you will have evidence of excellent classroom practice and high expectations of pupil attainment and, if overseas trained, that your professional qualifications are recognised in the UK by UK ENIC &/or the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).
