Job overview

At Gresham’s we recognise that every child has different strengths and talents and we pride ourselves on recruiting staff who can recognise, nurture and help pupils reach their true potential. Gresham’s offers a rare opportunity where children can join us at our Nursery and Pre-Prep from the age of 3 and continue with their education at our Prep and Senior Schools.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher of English to join a thriving and successful department. The successful applicant will need to be an experienced and excellent classroom practitioner who has a love of literature and is excited at the prospect of joining a strong academic team. Teaching of English will be required at all levels from Year 9 to Sixth Form. Sixth Form experience is essential but training will be available for A Level or the IB Diploma as the department offers both courses.

The School has both boarding and day pupils and runs an extended school day and a vast range of sporting and extra-curricular opportunities. All our academic staff are expected to embrace the co-curricular life at Gresham’s, whether you love Sport, Drama or working on projects with the local community, we have more than enough to keep you busy.

We are privileged to be situated in the Georgian town of Holt and the School sits within 200 acres of glorious countryside. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and with the Norfolk Broads and the North Norfolk Coast just a few miles away, you will be spoiled for choice as to how to spend your free time; whether it is bird watching, sailing, fantastic food or boutique shopping, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

A sense of humour, a readiness to laugh a lot and enjoy working here is very important.

About Gresham's School

Gresham’s is a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 2-18. It is situated in the Georgian town of Holt in beautiful countryside, just three miles from the breathtaking North Norfolk coast.

The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham who forged close ties with The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. On his death, he left the school in their care and strong links with them and the City of London remain to this day.

The school enjoys a generous campus with excellent facilities including a state-of-the-art music building (Britten) with its own recording studio, indoor and outdoor performance spaces including a theatre (Auden), multi-surface sports pitches, tennis courts, swimming pool, sports hall and shooting range. The Dyson Building opened at Gresham’s in September 2021. Sir James Dyson, a former pupil at the school, enabled the innovative new centre for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education.

The school has an impressive list of Old Greshamians including the composer Benjamin Britten, the poet WH Auden, Oscar winning actress Olivia Colman and international rugby players Tom and Ben Youngs, to name but a few.
