 Largs Academy is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary in North Ayrshire, western Scotland. A wide catchment area containing the surrounding areas, the villages of Fairlie, Skelmorlie and the island of Cumbrae gives the school an approximate roll of 1000 pupils. Facilities include a purpose built IT suite, playing fields and two astroturf pitches. The town of Largs has a population of 11,200, and is located 33 miles west from Glasgow. Extra-curricular activities offered include international ski trips and the Ocean Youth Trust sailing expeditions. As of the most recent inspection pupil’s attendance rates was well above the national average.

Largs Academy is committed to tackling inequality and raise attainment across the whole school through delivering an appropriate range of qualifications and experiences, and through developing a positive relationships policy. This will be based on the key principles of nurture, to ensure a motivated and engaged pupil population which is able to achieve the highest standards possible.

“The overall quality of teaching was very good. Almost all teachers created a very positive and motivating climate for learning. They interacted very well with pupils and used an appropriate range of stimulating teaching approaches including the use of information and communications technology (ICT) and group work.”
