Job overview

(0.6FTE)

Greenbank High School is an outstanding all girls 11 to16 Academy situated along the Sefton coastline, close to Southport and with good transport links.

We wish to appoint a highly motivated, committed and well-qualified teacher of English to work within the lively and very successful English and Communications faculty, which also include Drama and Media Studies.

The department is staffed by a team of eight dedicated English specialists whose expertise covers a wide range of curriculum areas and teaching styles. We have high expectations of our pupils and attitudes to learning in English are excellent. At the heart of our work is fostering pupils’ expertise in the English language, to enable them to represent themselves and communicate effectively in the wider world. We seek to foster a love of reading and an appreciation of notable works of literature in our pupils. Our broad curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire pupils of all abilities and provides a wide range of opportunities for independent learning and successful group collaboration. As a result, pupils make excellent progress at both GCSE and Key Stage 3.

Currently, at Key Stage 3, our curriculum is APP based and assessment occurs across a range of Assessment Focuses for reading and writing each half term. As a transition to Key Stage 4, some of the GCSE English Literature texts are introduced in the summer term of year 9. At Key Stage 4, we follow the WJEC GCSE specification for English Language and English Literature.

Pupils are grouped by ability from year 7-11.

We strive to meet the learning needs of all of our pupils and believe that early recognition of learning barriers related to literacy is crucial. As a result, our pupils also benefit from the input of intervention teachers who specialise in reading and literacy support.

There are a variety of extra-curricular opportunities on offer to pupils. These include creative writing club, film club, book club and GCSE revision support. We also offer pupil leadership opportunities and have a large number of literacy leaders who help to promote whole school literacy initiatives such as Accelerated Reader, ‘word of the week ‘and ‘recommended reads’. Theatre trips are popular and well attended and we regularly bring theatre groups into school to enhance pupils’ experience of a range of works of literature.

The department is based in a suite of rooms centred around the school Learning Zone and enjoy good access to ICT facilities.

There will be opportunities to work closely with the local boys’ school, local primary schools and post-16 providers in developing the curriculum and enhancing links with local, national and international organisations.

We would welcome prospective applicants to visit and take a tour of the school. Please email jobs@greenbankhigh.co.uk and we will contact you in September to arrange an appointment.
