Values and vision

Southmoor Academy prides itself on being one of Sunderland’s highest ranking schools and has the motto "aspire, achieve, enjoy". The secondary school works to give all students the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background. Teachers allow pupils to develop their interests and skills through extra-curricular activities, creative arts or sport, alongside the regular curriculum.

Community is at the heart of the academy and pupils are encouraged to take an interest in their surroundings. Southmoor Academy specialises in maths and computing. The school also offers professional football training and coaching through the Martin Gray Football Academy.

Ofsted report

“Academy data, evidence from lesson observations, discussions with students and detailed work scrutiny show that students are making good progress. Their good achievement is a result of increasingly strong teaching and the very effective targeted support of students most at risk of underachieving. Most parents and carers who responded to the on-line questionnaire believe that their children make good progress."
