Lincoln Christ’s Hospital school is located in the beautiful, historic, cathedral city of Lincoln (average house price semi-detached £140,000).  This is a truly comprehensive academy, with 1,324 students on roll including 270 in the Sixth Form.  We are extremely proud of our whole school and English department results this summer which have been the best in over ten years.  At GCSE, 70% of our comprehensive intake was awarded a grade 4 to 9 in English with 7 students achieving a grade 9.  Our A-Level students had a 100% pass rate at A* to D.

We wish to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English for January 2018.  The ability to teach Media Studies may be an advantage.  The right candidate will be passionate about English, have high expectations of students, and wish to motivate students of all abilities.  This is an excellent opportunity for teachers new to the profession or more experienced professionals looking for their next career step.  For those looking for further responsibility, there is the possibility of whole school TLR being negotiated.

This will be a rewarding role across the age and ability range, including the possibility of A Level teaching for the right candidate.  The English Department is a strong, enthusiastic and supportive team: discussing and sharing good practice is common-place.  We set ourselves high standards in teaching and learning, and we believe feedback for students on their progress is vital.     We currently have seven full-time and five part-time practitioners, led by a Head of Department, Second in Department and an additional Key Stage Co-ordinator.  Most teachers have their own teaching room.  We have a well-stocked library with a dedicated full-time librarian who works closely with the team to develop students’ enthusiasm for reading. We would welcome a candidate keen to be involved in extra-curricular activities and keen to promote our subject in school.

All members of the teaching team take on the additional role of Form Tutor.

The school offers an excellent induction programme for new staff.

The school is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

We welcome visitors to the school, and visits can be arranged through Sharon Roberts, the Head Teacher’s PA (01522 881144).   Application forms can be downloaded from our website.  We only accept application forms. We do not accept CVs. Completed application forms and supporting letters should be sent for the attention of Mrs Sharon Roberts, PA to the Headteacher, by email (sroberts@lchs.eu) or by post. We reserve the right to interview early for an outstanding candidate.

Closing Date: Noon on Friday 13th October 2017  Interview Date: Thursday 19th October 2017

About Lincoln Christ's Hospital School

Our school is driven by our clear moral purpose to every single student and the wider community.  It is an above average sized mixed comprehensive school providing a broad and balanced curriculum through Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.  Every student studies at least the full set of English Baccalaureate subjects, including at least one language, both humanities, Religious Studies, Physical Education and SMSC up to Year 9 while ensuring appropriate options are given in year 8 and refined in year 9 in preparation for Key Stage 4.

Our proportion of Pupil Premium Students is significantly higher than national at 33% and increasing with each new cohort.  The proportion of students from a minority ethnic background is low in comparison to national statistics and the proportion of students whose first language is not English is broadly in line with national at 10%.  The proportion of students receiving SEN support is higher than national levels at approximately 20% with levels of EHPC lower than expected.  The school deprivation indicator is higher than national.

LCHS has recently been judged as Good overall and in all Areas, (March 2018).  The progress 8 score in 2017 was 0.04 and in 2018 was -0.34.  The Value added in 6th form is positive with outcomes at their highest point than at any other time in the school's history.

Together, our core purpose is to ensure all of our students leave us as caring and compassionate young adults who have a clear pathway to their personal success pathway.  We will do this by offering a well-rounded provision which both supports a broad academic excellence but also helps each one to develop and understanding of mutual respect and tolerance.

No child will be left behind and each family will recognise that we will do everything possible to help them succeed while they are at Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School and are well set up for that continued success when they move on.

We want to have a happy and thriving school.  A school which adapts to change, where staff and students are valued, where families can have total confidence that no matter what comes their way – LCHS will be there to guide them, advise them and support them through life’s ups and downs.
