Job overview

Dear Applicant

Thank you very much for taking the time to consider the post of full time, teacher of English at Hadley Learning Community.

HLC is a high-performing 11-16 comprehensive within the Telford and Wrekin Authority. The school has an ever expanding roll of over 930 students. HLC has been open for 13 years and is blessed with the most amazing facilities which I am sure you will agree will provide you with the most amazing teaching environment.

Our school is very popular and well regarded; it is over-subscribed at entry. Our students have the benefits of working in a school that has a happy, caring and purposeful environment. The School’s mission is for every child to fulfil their potential and our students are encouraged to do their very best in every aspect of their lives.

Hadley Learning Community is strongly committed to ensuring that all of the young people in our care make excellent academic progress and we take great pride in our progress measures. For example, our 2014 to 17 results placed us in the top 10% of schools nationally for value-added. We are especially proud of our academic achievements in English where HLC outperformed all other Telford and Wrekin schools in terms of progress. In a school with a significant number of students in the low/mid ability band this progress is simply outstanding and testament to the hardworking, dedicated staff.

We set very high expectations of our performance and seek to be the best we can be for our students and staff. It was no surprise in our most recent Ofsted that we achieved an overall effectiveness grade of ‘good’. All four measures were good with aspects that were outstanding which we were pleased with within the context of the schools rapid development. We are in no doubt that should we be inspected again we would be securely classified as outstanding. To achieve and sustain this, we need to ensure that our learners make good or outstanding progress in all subjects through outstanding teaching and learning.

We feel our school ethos is truly unique. Mutual respect and very clear expectations regarding effort, progress and behaviour are key to our success. Students get on exceptionally well with each other at HLC and with the staff, who take a huge pride in working here. Achievement in all forms: artistic, academic, social, cultural, sporting and intellectual are equally valued. We are especially proud of our sporting and performing arts achievements where we participate and are successful in local and national competitions.

Our wide curriculum gives scope for students to express preferences and enhance their abilities. They revel in the wide range of opportunities we offer them: foreign exchanges to develop their languages; a huge range of trips that enhance their curriculum understanding; development visits to support our link school in Pakistan; Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and so on. All of these activities widen our learners’ life experiences. The overwhelming majority of our students continue their studies at post 16 level at local colleges.

We would be delighted to receive your application if you:

- are student-centred

- are an outstanding or strongly-good classroom practitioner

- are committed to meeting the challenges that schools face

- have an empathy for and an ability to motivate and inspire young people

 - are energetic, enthusiastic, highly motivated and have a sense of humour and a sense of fun!

- Have a proven track record of teaching success and show a desperation to demonstrate a positive impact through a leadership role

Hadley Learning Community is more than just a place of work it is a thriving community, proud of its journey and confident of its future. We often tell the students at HLC that enjoyment and achievement go hand in hand. The same applies to our staff; they enjoy working here and it is that, more than anything else, which underpins their ambition and fuels their success.

 But what about you?

What can you offer us? Are you the sort of teacher who can make a significant difference to students’ lives and actively contribute to moving our happy and successful school further forward to becoming outstanding?

We are now looking to make a full time, permanent appointment of a dynamic teacher of English, to role model high quality teaching and learning and maximise the achievement of students.

I look forward to reading your application.

Yours sincerely

Paul Roberts Principal

Values and vision

Our students will walk through the door of their school, where everyone belongs, with pride. Our children, families and wider community will know that we support them as we are rooted in all aspects of local life.  We believe that our school can only be as strong as the community we serve and, as a result, we know that our school is responsible for providing the foundations for our community to thrive.

Our students will appreciate the importance of their education and respect those within their school environment, and beyond, who strive to nurture each and every one to be the best that they can be.  Our children will recognise the importance of being well-mannered and polite individuals who have the confidence and self-assurance to represent themselves, and their school, with credit.

Our staff will instil a drive and ambition that inspires every child to fulfil their potential.  We will create opportunities for lifelong learning ensuring that their time within our classrooms is only the beginning of their journey.  Our students will be equipped with a love of learning that will provide them with the skills to contribute to their world whether it be locally, nationally or globally.

Our students will be confident in the knowledge that our staff will do everything within their power to ensure they succeed.  Our students will understand that they need to work hard, be resilient and driven in their approach to their studies. We will embrace a ‘can do culture’, which will encourage us to learn from our mistakes and develop an understanding that by supporting each other anything is possible. Our vision is to provide our students with an exciting curriculum and linked opportunities that inspire them to charge at barriers that might stand in their way to fulfilling their goals. We will mould our young peoples’ lives through the arts, sports, STEM and hundreds of other initiatives giving them the tools to flourish.

We will stand by our belief that as a school we can transform a community to understand that education is the most valuable gift anyone can offer you. We will believe in our students and promise to give them the opportunities they dream of. We will shape happy, young people who relish learning in a safe environment.  We will all call our school our own and be proud to be a part of the HLC family.

We will inspire our students to respect themselves, others and the environment in which they belong, allowing them to succeed through the enjoyment of learning.
