Job overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to teach on our Foundation Art, Design and Media programme from September 2018, and also to teach on other Media courses. Applications are welcome from qualified teachers or from Design and Media graduates who aim to become teachers.

The Foundation Art, Design & Media programme provides a one-year multi-disciplinary programme for students between completion of A level (or other Level 3) studies and the study of Art, Design or Media at university. Our Foundation Art programme was set up in 2015 and is in its third successful year. The College is now extending the offer to provide a Media-focused programme, which is better matched to the needs of students who have studied Media or Graphics at A level or Level 3 BTEC Media. We already have a cohort of students who have applied for this programme in 2018-19, which is referred to as “Foundation Media” in short.

This is a teaching role, and we are seeking either someone with good teaching experience, or who can demonstrate the capacity to develop the necessary teaching skills. Your degree may be in Media, Art or Design. To be a successful applicant, you will need to have high levels of expertise in Graphics and Media and you will have a good range of technical skills and disciplines. The pathway is designed for students who are interested in applying for degree courses such as film, animation, graphic design, visual communication, illustration, games design, photography and creative advertising. A strong interest in contemporary visual communication and a knowledge of both hand-made and digital processes and materials will be essential to the role. We will also be interested in relevant work experience in the creative industries.

The right candidate will be committed and hard-working, with the ability and desire to inspire and develop talented young learners and creative professionals. You will be well supported, and can look forward to contributing to an excellent team and sharing the rewards of teaching our learners.

Closing Date: Midnight, Monday 30th April 2018

Interviews are provisionally arranged for Thursday 10th May 2018

College Overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
