Job overview

Chulmleigh Community College is a high performing, ambitious College well known for exemplary behaviour and conduct. This is a school where pupils want to learn and teachers focus upon high quality teaching. We put a very high emphasis upon the learning of French; more than 80% of our pupils take the subject at GCSE and we intend to increase this figure over the next three years to almost 100%. Ebacc results in 2018 were the best in the region for a non-selective, non fee-paying school and our successful French department play a significant role in this success. We take pride in offering all our pupils, regardless of background, a challenging curriculum and the success of our strategy is quite clear via Schools Compare website

The Role

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and motivating Teacher of French to teach all abilities across KS3 and KS4. The ability to teach Spanish would be an advantage, but not essential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to inspire our ambitious students, supporting them to allow development of their language skills and cultivate their enjoyment of French.  We are seeking a colleague who will have high expectations of our pupils and of themselves.  The French department is housed within our new state-of-the-art school buildings.  We pride ourselves on the quality of the learning environment and you will be able to immerse yourself in your subject fully without disruptions.

Why work with us?

  • Chulmleigh Community College runs a CPD programme for all teaching staff based on research from the Educational Endowment Foundaton, we also offer a middle leadership-training programme – your continued development and career is important to us.
  • On site gym & sports hall
  • On site canteen and other food facilities
  • Shared working space for our MFL department
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Childcare vouchers
  • Easy commute to the thriving and dynamic cities of Barnstaple & Exeter
  • Easy commute to the coast

We are increasing our MFL teaching provision from September 2019 to support our pupils’ outstanding achievements.

We are seeking applications from teachers who want to join a hard-working well organised, agile, happy and orderly school. Experienced and newly qualified teachers will both be considered and the successful candidate will be required to start in September 2019.

The College

In February 2018, an Ofsted inspection confirmed we were a Good College where pupils consistently make exceptional progress. GCSE results at the College are consistently outstanding. We are delighted with the outstanding +0.51 P8 success achieved by our students in 2018, which is ‘well-above’ the national and county average.
