Townley Grammar School is an academically selective and socially responsible girls’ state grammar school with a coeducational Sixth Form. Located in the London Borough of Bexley, Townley was founded in 1937 and has over the years established a tradition of academic excellence, scholastic endeavor and lifelong learning. Townley encourages academic, emotional and physical confidence; our students are inspirational learners who have the courage to take risks and the wisdom to learn from their mistakes. Languages are a key part of a Townley student’s learning journey. We offer French, German and Spanish and all students will study at least one of these languages up to GCSE level, with some opting to study two. We also offer each language at A Level.

Our vision in the Languages department at Townley is to encourage students to develop a positive attitude to language learning and a sympathetic approach to other cultures and civilisations so that they consider themselves as world citizens in a multicultural world. We strive to provide a space where students develop the confidence to use languages effectively for practical communication and to form a sound base of the skills and attitude required for further study, work and leisure. As such, we offer an immersed and enriched curriculum that stretches beyond the national curriculum's scope, with a focus on intercultural trips and events. In recent years we have run trips to Barcelona, Paris and the Rhineland and encourage all members of the department to get involved with these trips. In addition to this, we run annual events such as the KS3 Languages Spelling Bee, the Great Languages Bake Off and trips to the British Film Institute.

We are looking for a forward thinking, inspirational French & Spanish teacher to work collaboratively with colleagues, deliver outstanding lessons and to support in the development of the curriculum, raising academic achievement and ensuring all of our students make outstanding progress.

The post holder will be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) Check with appropriate barred list checks, or the equivalent, and must be eligible to work in the UK. All staff are expected to be committed to the Equal Opportunities Policy.
