We are seeking to appoint a permanent, full time or part time (minimum 0.6fte), teacher of French to teach in this selective Grammar School for Boys.  The successful applicant will be required to teach French throughout the age range.  Applications are welcome from teachers at any stage in their career.

  • This is a permanent appointment, full-time or part-time (minimum 0.60fte) effective from 1st September 2018 with a salary payable on the main professional or upper pay scales (MPS1-UPS3) Applications are welcome from teachers at any stage in their career.    
  • The successful applicant will be required to teach French to pupils in Years 7-11. The ability to teach a second language is desirable but not essential. In addition the successful applicant will have responsibility for a form and required to deliver their weekly lesson of Personal & Social Education.  
  • Experience of teaching either French to A-Level while desirable is not essential. Candidates who do not have experience of A-Level teaching but who would like to develop this aspect of their practice are encouraged to apply.  
  • All pupils study French & German as separate timetabled subjects in Years 7-9 and French or German, although they can study both if they wish to do so, as one of their GCSE subject options. A-Level French & German are taught in collaboration with Handsworth Grammar School. In addition the school offers Mandarin and is a Swire Foundation Hub School.  
  • Both French & German offer extensive extra-curricular opportunities with language days, residential visits to Munich and Paris and student exchange opportunities.  
  • There are three dedicated language teaching rooms and a languages’ office. All staff receive a school lap top for work use. Each language has its own foreign assistant.

King Edward VI Aston School is an academy school for boys based in Birmingham for students aged 11-18. It is a Christian school.

A selective grammar school for boys and one of the twelve schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham.  It has been part of the Aston community since 1883 and has strong links with many local schools and organisations primarily through the work of its Sports Partnership.
