Job overview

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. By collecting expertise and combining resources, we help to make the tough job of teaching a little easier. With a shared curriculum and lesson plans from around the group available to all, our teachers have strong foundations to lead the engaging, rounded education our children deserve. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we share this resource and communicate across sites, helping to simplify processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with wide career opportunities  between Primary and Secondary, Academy and Independent  better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of helping every child at each of our schools to succeed and reach their full potential.

Are you an ambitious classroom teacher looking for a new opportunity within a successful MFL department?

Would you like to gain experience in a new role alongside a positive, forward thinking and flourishing team?

An exciting opportunity is available to join our dynamic and successful MFL department. We are looking for a qualified, enthusiastic teacher of French (KS3 & 4), preferably with an ability to also teach Spanish if required.

The MFL department pride themselves on being a passionate and committed team, who always ensure that high standards are maintained. We demonstrate our commitment by providing our students with an innovative and exciting curriculum.

Our academy is transformational for young people and was judged 'Good' in all areas in February 2016.

We serve a diverse and vibrant community and we can guarantee that no two days will be the same. We will provide a comprehensive induction and support package and NQTs will have access to a well-developed NQT induction programme. Beyond this, all staff benefit from a highly personalised CPD programme.

We invite applications from NQTs looking to start an exciting new career or from experienced teachers looking for a new and highly desirable opportunity.

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide an excellent education for all so that our young people are able to make a success of their lives. In order to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the best staff.

If you are interested in working in an environment where staff well-being and professional development is at the heart of driving ever higher levels of student success, then we would welcome your application.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted in all areas in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION, AMBITION, TOLERANCE and INTEGRITY. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Quality Mark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons.  To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • A genuine ‘flexi-working’ approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in late or leave early for every teaching member of staff
  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally

Our pledge, to all our academy teachers, is that by working for us you will benefit from more pay, more time and more support.

More pay…

• We pay an average of 5% above national scales – the   best rates of pay in the sector

• Cash towards medical treatment

• Generous staff discount scheme

more time…

• Three extra INSET days for planning

• At least one personal day a year

and more support

• Great training for your career

• Exceptional curriculum resources

• Expert subject advice

• Support for your wellbeing
