We are looking for an enthusiastic, capable and inspiring teacher to join the Modern Languages department. The successful candidate will teach French to our Junior School pupils from Year 3 upwards plus a small number of KS3 lessons in the Senior School. The ability to teach either Spanish or German at KS3 will be an advantage but is not a requirement.
In the Junior School French and Spanish are taught from Year 3 to Year 6. Modern Languages are an important part of the KS2 curriculum and the school allocates two teaching periods per week for the study of either French or Spanish. Additionally, the Junior School shares a Modern Language Assistant with the Junior School who culturally enriches the lessons. Extra-curricular clubs offer further exposure to languages.
The Senior School Modern Languages Department currently consists of the Head of ML along with Heads of Spanish, French and German and a further three teachers, including two native speakers. The department is fortunate to have the support of four French, German and Spanish Assistants (FLA). All staff are experienced, motivated and pleased to contribute to the development of a high-quality learning environment within the department and to a varied range of extra-curricular activities. The Department is well equipped – all 7 language classrooms have interactive whiteboards, one classroom contains a suite of 12 computers and there is a dedicated study room for 1:1 tuition and lessons with the FLAs. The department has its own staff office and a separate resources room.
Languages are popular and the results of the department in all three main languages are consistently very good. All pupils study Spanish in Year 7 and take up a second language in Year 8. Both languages are studied in Year 9.
