TEACHER OF FRENCH

King Edward VI College are currently recruiting for a permanent part-time post due to start in August. This is a minimum 0.6 fraction position with a view to teach 0.8 during 2019-2020 term. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher with enthusiasm and drive who wishes to work in a strongly academic sixth form college, which is committed to lively, student-centred teaching and a concern for meeting the needs of individual students. 

Applications will be welcomed from well-qualified graduates, wishing to begin their teaching career by specialising in sixth form teaching. Newly qualified teachers are able to acquire Qualified Teacher Status at sixth form colleges and the college arranges for the necessary pre-16 teaching experience at one of our partner 11-16 schools. For experienced teachers, post-16 experience in sixth form, tertiary or general FE colleges and maintained or independent schools will be equally relevant. Although a postgraduate teaching qualification is preferred, applicants without such a qualification are also encouraged to apply. The college is fully committed to supporting all members of staff through staff development and in-service training.

There are approximately 60 students studying French at A level following the AQA specification.  French is part of the Modern Foreign Languages team, which consist of French, Spanish and German all of which are single teacher subjects. French is a dynamic subject which is taught using a variety of active learning methods. It is an increasingly successful A Level with high grades of 73.3% and a 96.7% pass rate in 2018. Students learn through a variety of teaching and learning strategies delivered by an experienced and well-qualified member of staff, who is committed to establishing a positive environment that promotes high quality learning. Currently, students develop their understanding of French through one to one or small group appointments with the assistant who is a native speaker. Many students who take the course go on to study language at university.
