Job overview

“Opportunities for professional development and sharing of best practice are numerous”. Ofsted May 2012

Malmesbury School requires a dynamic, enthusiastic and well-qualified part-time teacher of Geography. The successful applicant will be required to teach Geography up to A level, and History and Religious Studies at key stage 3. The Humanities Faculty consists of Geography, History, Religious Studies and Sociology and is highly successful both in terms of academic results and student participation. Humanities subjects are taught as separate subjects in all years.

This is an excellent opportunity for professional development in a very supportive and caring school. The school occupies a modern building and Humanities rooms are all grouped together around a faculty office with an interactive whiteboard and computer in every classroom. This post would be suitable for a highly competent NQT or a teacher with experience and a proven track record of success.

At Malmesbury School our vision is to be a happy, caring and excellent community. We are proud to be a truly comprehensive school providing an education of the highest quality for all the students within Malmesbury and the surrounding area.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection in May 2012, the inspectors found that in all areas the school is 'Outstanding'. One parental comment summarises what many others say; ‘This is a wonderful school. It nurtures, cares and educates the children’. In 2014 we established the Avon Teaching School Alliance and we now lead a group of excellent local schools and universities in providing high quality Professional Development Opportunities to staff at all stages in their careers. Also in 2014 we became a Core Maths lead school and now work with a number of schools across Wiltshire, Swindon and Gloucestershire leading the development of post 16 Core Maths.

In March 2015 we established the Athelstan Multi Academy Trust which consists of three secondary schools (Malmesbury School, Bradon Forest School and The Dean Academy), two in North Wiltshire and one in Gloucestershire. The Trust offers further career development opportunities for colleagues to work across more than one school.

Malmesbury School is a highly successful school that offers unparalleled support and opportunities to staff who wish to develop their skills and leadership. The school is well situated just north of the M4 (J17), within easy travelling distance of Bristol, Bath, and Swindon and just on the edge of the Cotswolds.

The closing date for applications is noon on Monday 31st October 2016 with interviews taking place on Thursday 10th November 2016.

The Athelstan Trust is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share in this obligation. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure by the DBS.
