Excellent opportunity for an inspirational teacher, in a successful, well ordered, and inclusive 3-19 all through school. We are at the heart of an ethnically diverse community in London East, an area undergoing significant regeneration and building affordable homes. The school is located less than 10 minutes’ walk from Barking tube and mainline station (25 minutes from Liverpool Street station) and is easily accessible by road.
We are seeking a well-qualified and ambitious professional who is motivated to make a difference to the life chances of young people. The post would suit a team player who is committed to the happiness, well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school. The ability or desire to teach in our primary phase would be an advantage but is not essential.
We have the highest expectations of everyone and can offer
• Highly aspirational pupils who are eager to learn
• A highly supportive school in which teaching and learning is the key priority, and staff are provided with the time and coaching needed to be successful
. • Career development (Leadership / Lead practitioner training for exceptional candidates after 2 years in post)
• Access to the LBBD affordable quality housing scheme
. • Visit and tour of school prior to final application
• Lead practitioner available for suitably qualified candidates
We are seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic teacher of Geography. The successful teacher will be joining a very well established and thriving department and will be responsible for the teaching of Geography at Key Stages 3 and 4
The department is enthusiastic about educating pupils inside and outside of school. There are trips locally for orienteering as well as fieldwork at GCSE and A level to locations such as Southend-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, Stratford, Canary Wharf and Slapton Ley in Devon. The department has also led the way with international trips to Iceland and Greece. This has meant an increase in the uptake of geography at GCSE. The department is also involved in extracurricular activities such as Debate Mate and the Global Learning Programme.
Geography lessons in KS3 focus on all elements of geography touching on cross curricular links with History and Science. Units are thematically based incorporating geographical skills applied to content in addition to opportunities for independent and enquiry based learning. Topics studied include globalisation, natural hazards, tourism, development, ecosystems, coasts, map skills and the energy. A more detailed curriculum can be found on the school’s website: https://eastburycomp.fluencycms.co.uk/Geography
Geography is popular at KS4 attracting students of all abilities. In recent years achievement has been in line with national average. Geography has recently been taught at KS5 with links between schools in the Southern Consortium. The department follows the AQA specification for KS4 and KS5.
