We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate, hard-working, qualified Geography teacher.
Geography is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range and at all levels and abilities, in its own suite of rooms. We enjoy results significantly above the national average. Key Stage 3 has a varied and engaging curriculum which gives opportunities in both breadth and depth. All groups in Key Stage 3 and GCSE are mixed ability. At GCSE Geography follows the OCR B specification and at A level we follow the OCR specification.
Geography offers a collaborative department, which works hard to develop the students, as well as themselves. As a result, the department has an excellent uptake at GCSE and A level. Linked to this, the department has a close relationship with the Prince’s Teaching Institute which enables them to develop Geography not only within the school, but also in others. The department has also been awarded the Geographical Association’s Secondary Geography Quality Mark for its innovative curriculum. Therefore, Hinchingbrooke really is a place to grow and flourish as a Geographer.
The department puts a lot of emphasis on fieldwork, with all year groups experiencing fieldwork. GCSE students are offered residential trips to Dorset and Sicily. Whilst A level students are offered residential trips to Snowdonia, Iceland, Malaysia and New York. It is also highly regarded due to the tradition of high-quality teaching in the department and the opportunities for exciting extra-curricular activities, such as GIS hazard mitigation workshops run by the Royal Engineers and climate change debates run by the Royal Meteorological Society. The Geography department is founded upon a love of subject which is at the heart of all we do.
The school offers a bespoke CPD programme, research and development, links and networks with other outstanding schools as well as a plethora of extra-curricular and cross-curricular working opportunities.
The school sees the form tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and commitment as their subject role.
