Job overview

We encourage you to read our website very carefully and familiarise yourself with our 2014 Ofsted report, our prospectus, candidate information pack and application form for the post. What will be clear to you is that you are applying to an extremely successful school and one with a decidedly clear ethos of achievement. We moved, in November 2012, into a brand new £80 million school. The school became an Academy in September 2013 and was recognised by the Department for Education as a Teaching School in 2015. The government’s analysis of examination results has placed the school’s performance in the top 5% of schools nationally over the last decade. The school is committed to developing its teachers and to fostering the development of outstanding teaching. It is a personalised community, committed to creating careers for people. We are experienced in supporting NQTs and indeed enjoy this aspect of staff development but we have had equal success in fostering the careers of colleagues who join having taught in other schools or who have had other careers.

Teachers provide outstanding Geography teaching. There are generous resources and all teachers have their own classroom which includes a range of interactive technology. Geography colleagues benefit from the participation in the Prince’s Teaching Institute and their professional development is supported by a Deputy Head. Geography is popular at both GCSE and A-level and in recent years Geography students have visited Iceland, Italy, Dorset, the New Forest and Wales. Though many of our students are fortunate enough to inhabit an extremely progressive and outward-looking city, the place of Geography is unquestionable: even central London is a bubble, and developing students’ understanding of the wider world, its development, politics, vulnerabilities and economics is central to the school’s curriculum. More widely,  school is committed to outdoor education and has a very popular Duke of Edinburgh programme.  At GCSE, students study Geography in vertical teaching groups comprising of students in Years 9, 10 and 11. This is common practice across all GCSE option subjects and it is enormously successful.

An application form that should be completed electronically is available from the school’s website: http://www.hollandparkschool.co.uk/vacancies/train-and-teach-with-us. Early application is encouraged as we will seek to interview and appoint on receipt. The closing date for applications is Monday 25th February 2019.
