Job overview

Teacher of Geography

ECT, main scale or UPS

Required for September 2022

We are seeking to appoint a permanent, full time teacher of Geography. The successful candidate will have experience of teaching Geography either on placement or as part of recent paid employment.

First and foremost, we require a teacher who can build excellent relationships with staff and students. This requires a range of leadership styles, a warm personality and genuine caring interest in staff and young people.

A commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school is essential.

Subject knowledge is important, as is an up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in Geography. The successful candidate will thoroughly enjoy teaching their subject and understand the importance of Geography in contributing to our students’ wider development.

In return, we offer a first-class learning environment, working with students who are typically above national average attainment at start point in Year 7. Our Geography department is strong with a history of good outcomes over many years.

The general staff body is very experienced and we have a highly committed team who always ‘go the extra mile’ for the school and community. All staff are expected to contribute to the development of new resources and to work collaboratively with others. We also offer excellent professional development opportunities and a wide range of facilities.

The school was inspected in 2019 and remains ‘Good’ following a Section 8 Ofsted Inspection. We consider many aspects of our provision to be excellent and we are now working to securing even further improvements at the school.

Standards of behaviour are very good. We achieve this because of a very strong team work ethic in pastoral management, but also we do not tolerate poor choices without proportionate consequences. As a new member of staff, you will find the school to be an extremely welcoming environment to teach in.

This is a superb opportunity to come and join a school where you will make a genuine difference and see our students make great progress over their time with us.

Salendine Nook High School is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary 11-16 school situated in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Attainment in entry is higher than average in all year groups. Over half of the students on roll come to us with high prior attainment based upon Key Stage 2 SATs. Our students generally arrive with high levels of literacy and numeracy. This means that expectations are high in terms of expected progress over the five years of secondary education. The parent body is also generally very supportive. We are a larger than average secondary school providing approximately 1350 places for students. The school is oversubscribed in all year groups.

The school converted to academy status in February 2012. It is sponsored by a single-academy trust called the Salendine Nook Academy Trust.
