Job overview

Are you an inspirational and enthusiastic teacher who believes that their students deserve the very best education? Do you want to work with an innovative team of teachers who are passionate about teaching and delivering a stimulating and engaging curriculum which places students at the centre of the learning process?

We are looking for a Teacher of Geography to join our successful Humanities department. Experience in middle management is welcome but not essential. The Humanities department has been transformed over the last couple of years under new leadership and you would be joining an innovative team of teachers at an exciting time. The teaching and learning in Geography continues to improve rapidly, with students achieving success at both Key Stage 3 and in GCSE. In March 2017, OFSTED judged the school as ‘Good’ and we are now keen to build from this on our journey to outstanding.

Salterns Academy Trust is a learning community where every member of staff understands the difference they can make to our students’ outcomes. It was formed when Admiral Lord Nelson School (ALNS) became a converter academy in April 2014 as a means of developing ever closer working relationships with our primary and secondary partner schools.

To apply please complete the application form that can be found on the website www.alns.co.uk and return it together with your letter of application to recruitment@alns.co.uk.  Alternatively please contact Mrs Young at Admiral Lord Nelson School.

About Admiral Lord Nelson School

Salterns Academy Trust is a learning community where every member of staff is motivated by the positive difference they will make to the personal development and the futures of our young people of Portsmouth. It was formed when Admiral Lord Nelson School became a converter academy in April 2014 and sponsored Trafalgar School, which is now our thriving partner Secondary School in Portsmouth.

Admiral Lord Nelson School opened in 1997 and is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary in Portsmouth. It has a national reputation for being a truly inclusive school with excellent standards and principled curriculum design, having a very high Ebacc entry. Our deep-rooted and longstanding commitment to being a UNICEF Rights Respecting School led to us being the only school invited to a garden party with all the Soccer Aid celebrities hosted by the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street and we have recently been reaccredited with UNICEF RRS Gold award status in recognition of our ambassadorial work. We are equally passionate about promoting creativity across all aspects of our curriculum, for which we were the first school in England to hold a double Artsmark Platinum award and have recently been designated the TES Creative School of the Year for 2019.

Admiral Lord Nelson School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community of 1050 students, around 160 staff, many adult volunteers and a highly dedicated Governing Body who all work together to constantly strive for excellence and to live up to our motto: ‘Dare to Dream, Aim to Achieve’. Always oversubscribed, we are expanding our school so that more local families can experience the excellent education offered here at Admiral Lord Nelson School for over two decades!

Principles are important at Admiral Lord Nelson School and we explain our distinctive ethos in 3 values: Inclusivity, Wellbeing and High Expectations. They are the foundations on which we have built the sense of family that pervades every aspect of our school.

Our impressive success throughout the past two decades has been firmly rooted in the positive and respectful relationships that we develop between all members of our community as we care for and promote the highest of aspirations for one another.

OFSTED have always recognised that staff at Admiral Lord Nelson School really do go the extra mile in the education that we provide for all of our students and have always judged us to be a ‘good school’ with excellent care, guidance and support for our students.
