Job overview
A well-qualified graduate specialist is required full-time to teach Geography as part of a strong and successful department. The Geography department at King Edward’s is a large department within the Humanities faculty. Geography is compulsory in the Lower School and is a popular option at GCSE and A level.
The department prides itself on instilling enthusiasm for Geography in the wider world, believing passionately in the need both to impart subject knowledge and to encourage pupils to research independently in an effort to formulate their own ideas. You would be required to teach across the full range of ages and topics, as well as participate fully in the co-curricular and fieldwork activities offered by the department.
The post would be equally suitable for someone seeking a first appointment or an experienced teacher. A willingness to contribute to the School’s wide range of co-curricular activities is expected. The School uses 1-1 technology to enhance teaching and learning.
King Edward’s has its own generous salary scale, as well as the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, Healthcare scheme and a reduction in school fees. There is also a possibility of on-site accommodation being available for single occupancy.

About King Edward VI School
King Edward VI School is a leading HMC Independent day school for children aged 11 – 18. King Edward’s is a school with a long and distinguished history and it has been at the heart of Southampton for over 460 years. The School has occupied 4 different sites, relocating to the purpose built site on Hill Lane in 1938. It became fully independent in 1979 and co-educational in 1994.
King Edward’s is proud of its reputation for academic and co-curricular achievement and is a forward thinking, vibrant and dynamic environment in which to teach and learn.
We aim to prepare students for a rapidly changing world. The School has long had a reputation for impressive academic results but, while essential for future success, we also encourage pupils to develop a wide range of skills and interests. We combine the pursuit of academic excellence with a range of opportunity and challenge to develop self-confident and independent young people who have a strong sense of community and will become responsible and reflective future leaders. High quality teaching, a strong sense of belonging and the space to grow and achieve full potential is what we offer at King Edward’s.
The School continues to invest in its facilities and opened a new Theatre, Art Department and VI form Centre in September 2017. Over £20 million worth of investment has taken place over the past decade with a new sports ground and pavilion at the Wellington Sports Ground, an outward bound centre on Dartmoor, complete refurbishment of all classrooms and laboratories, new music facilities and extensive IT provision including the adoption of 1:1 technology for all pupils.
