Job overview

The de Ferrers Academy has gained a reputation for high levels of academic achievement, demonstrated by the fact that the 2016 results at GCSE and A-level are the best on record.  We have a positive ethos and excellent staff/student relationships, we value our staff and are committed to their personal and professional development.    In recent years, the Academy has developed a national reputation for innovation and success in Learning technologies and ICT.   The Academy is an Apple Regional Training Centre, with 1:1 use of iPads for all Key Stage 4 and 5 students.

The Humanities Faculty is a strong team of twelve, well-qualified, staff teaching specialist subjects. Humanities is led by a Director of Learning, supported by a Lead Teacher and three Key Stage Leaders (KSL).

There are well equipped specialist rooms on both campuses, boasting an excellent selection of varied resources. It is Faculty policy to ensure access to new technologies, for example, all rooms have an interactive whiteboard, enhancing the use of interactive learning across the key stages. The Humanities Faculty is at the forefront of iPad use in the Academy. There is a very healthy “take-up" at GCSE and AS/A Level in all subjects, with significant levels of improvement over the last four years. Students from the Humanities subjects opt to continue their education at universities in a wide range of disciplines.

At Key Stage 4 we follow the New AQA Geography course which considers: The challenge of Natural Hazards, The Living World, Physical Landscapes in the UK, Urban Issues and Challenges, The Changing economic World and the Challenge of Resource Management.   At Key Stage 5 we study AQA Geography.  Topics include physical topics such as; Water and Carbon Cycles, Hazards and Coastal Landscapes and Human topics including Changing Places, Contemporary Urban Environments and Global Governance.

All prospective candidates are very welcome to visit the Academy, to tour and meet with members of the faculty, and meet with our students.  We are situated on the rural outskirts of Burton upon Trent, within easy access of Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby.  As the Academy of choice for the local area, you will feel part of a supported community and, most importantly, a warm and friendly environment in which to educate our young people.  We offer an employee reward package which includes car leasing discounts and our own independent travel consultant.
