Job overview

Teacher of Geography (with possible Head of Year responsibility)
To start from Easter 2020

Following our recent Ofsted inspection, we are seeking to expand our team to enable the academy to continue on its journey to outstanding. Our report reflects the improvement which have been made and we wish to continue the work already started by expanding our team. Our Academy is a vibrant and friendly; our students are happy and caring; our staff are experts in their field. Together we work together to make Grace Academy a place where we can all excel.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking Teacher of Geography to join the humanities team from April 2020.

This is a post which would suit either an NQT or an early career stage teacher as we pride ourselves on the professional development and support that we can offer.

We place great importance on our humanities subjects, being very aware that Geography is the subject which opens the door to this dynamic world, helps to prepare students for the role of global citizens in the 21st century and to gain an understanding of a diverse range of cultures and societies and how they exist and interconnect. The Humanities team pride themselves on the strong work ethic within the department which involves a system of shared planning and offers plenty of opportunity for CPD. The team have a great sense of humour.

In Years 7-9 students study Geography and follow a broadly based curriculum which reflects the National Curriculum with a focus on both physical and human geography. In Years 10 and 11, the students opting for Geography follow the AQA syllabus. The AQA syllabus is also followed for the A-Level programme of study. Most year groups have some fieldwork experience and there are plans to increase this further. Applicants should be prepared to teach across the age range (11-18) and some knowledge of both the GCSE and A-level AQA courses will be an advantage.

We are proud of our caring ethos which has a strong and genuine focus on staff wellbeing, putting development and wellbeing at the heart of our work. We work hard to look after our pool of talented staff who are encouraged to grow, develop and work collaboratively. Training and development opportunities will be offered, and all staff are encouraged to study further and the Trust will actively support staff to obtain relevant further qualifications where possible.

Tove Learning Trust is a fast moving and exciting place to work. The Trust schools have a shared vision and purpose: to deliver outstanding educational experiences that lead to inspiring outcomes. Each academy has a strong individual identity and tailors their educational provision to serve their local community. Academies within the trust collaborate to share expertise and maximise opportunities and experiences for our students.

This an exciting time to join Grace Academy! School visits are welcome and encouraged.

About Grace Academy Coventry

Grace Academy is a welcoming and caring community where our core values of Limitless Potential, Intentional Excellence, Mutual Respect, Genuine Integrity and Amazing Grace underpin all that we do through ‘The Grace Way’. Our Values are central to our ethos, day-to-day curriculum, extra-curricular activities and pastoral structures. We are aspirational and proud of who we are as we fundamentally believe that all our students should thrive at school and that they have the Limitless Potential to succeed.

We have amazing students here at Grace who deserve the best possible life chances. We encourage students to be praised and recognised for their achievements whilst at the same time being challenged to meet our high expectations of them.

At the centre of all we do is the focus of what is best for our students; we not only focus on the academic excellence of students but also work with students on supporting them to be the best people they can be. My team and I pride ourselves on making decisions from a position of integrity. As a parent myself, I strongly believe that if it is not good enough for my children, then it is not good enough for Grace students. This is even more important in the current climate, as we put student wellbeing and aspirations at the heart of all that we do. We believe it is important for all students leaving Grace Academy to have the self-belief and qualifications they need in order to follow the path they have chosen; that students do not limit themselves and that staff and parents work together to support them in raising their expectations and aspirations. This is without doubt a strength of the school where we achieved ‘outstanding’ in our Ofsted inspection for Personal Development.

We value our staff and pride ourselves on our caring ethos with a strong and genuine focus on staff wellbeing. We are committed to developing our staff at all stages of their career, both internally and externally. This was recogrnised as a strength of Grace in our recent Ofsted inspection: ‘The school has implemented a well-thought-out, professional development programme for staff. Staff workload is carefully considered, which staff appreciate.

We have a friendly, innovative and exciting community in which to work and offer a variety of attractive benefits, such as an onsite gym and use of the sporting facilities, free eye care vouchers, refreshments available throughout the day, free lunches when on duty and the opportunity to be a part of the Staff Wellbeing and Workload Committees.

Grace Academy joined the Tove Learning Trust in April 2019. We are a close knit family of schools that have a shared vision and purpose: to deliver outstanding educational experiences that lead to inspiring outcomes. Each academy has a strong individual identity and tailors their educational provision to serve their local community. Academies within the Trust collaborate to share expertise and maximise opportunities and experiences for our staff and students.
