Job overview

Teacher of German

Leicester Grammar School is one of the UK's top-performing co-educational HMC independent day schools. Our pupils enjoy exceptional opportunities within and beyond the classroom; we have high expectations, but the success of our community stems, above all, from a culture of aspiration and care. We attract positive, polite and grounded children, who display a strong sense of respect for one another and for staff. Concerns over behaviour are rare; our pupils thrive in a calm and purposeful community, well supported and guided by staff.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly qualified full-time linguist to join our Modern Foreign Languages team to teach German. The successful candidate will demonstrate strength and experience with teaching German up to A-Level; the ability to offer a second language to Key Stage 3 or 4, may be an advantage.

This role is for a September 2024 start, and presents a wonderful opportunity to benefit from Leicester Grammar School's focus of delivering engaging teaching to instil a passionate interest in your subject within a like-minded department, while also providing pupils with optimum exam preparation.

Besides teaching, you would also contribute fully to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the Modern Foreign Languages department and Leicester Grammar School generally.

Snapshot of our Modern Foreign Languages Department

The Modern Foreign Languages Department consists of six full-time members of staff and two part-time teachers, including the Head and Deputy Head of Modern Languages, plus foreign language assistants in French, Spanish and German. We aim to bring fun to language learning whilst stretching pupils to inspire a global outlook and a passion for foreign language and culture, and as such the results for German, Spanish and French are consistently high at Leicester Grammar School.

Applying to be a Teacher of German

If you are interested in teaching German, in a supportive, caring, and academically engaging environment, you are advised to apply early as we reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than the specified deadline, if a suitable candidate is found.

The closing date for applications is 15 April 2024. Interviews are currently planned for the following week, but may take place earlier.

Please note that tours of the school form part of the interview for short-listed candidates. Also, references will be obtained prior to interview.

Leicester Grammar School Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and this is reflected in our recruitment procedures.

We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff who reflect the social and cultural diversity of our pupil intake. We consider the most important factors to be the right skills, abilities and aptitude for the role which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
