St Michael’s Catholic College is an outstanding school which offers exceptional opportunities for a talented, committed and enthusiastic teacher of girls’ and mixed PE to join this energetic and enthusiastic department. We are looking for a creative professional who is keen to contribute and develop innovative ideas for teaching and learning and be committed to the College’s extra-curricular timetable. Physical Education and extracurricular Sport are high profile at the College and are an integral part of the curriculum offer, as a result we have very high levels of engagement from students in both PE lessons and extracurricular clubs. The college has recently appointed a Sports Development Officer to support the PE department to fulfil its vision to promote sporting excellence and lifelong opportunities for all.
The successful candidate will be a motivated individual with a keen interest in encouraging and inspiring students and who can enable them to flourish. The person appointed will have the opportunity to teach across the age and ability range up to and including CTEC Sport Level 3. This position would suit either an experienced teacher or an exceptional ECT.
St Michael’s has been judged outstanding by Ofsted on two successive occasions and is an outward looking school with an excellent reputation in the local area. It is a strategic partner in the Catholic Schools’ Partnership and works as part of the SSLP in partnership with other schools in the Borough including private schools. St Michael’s is a co-educational, Roman Catholic denominational secondary with sixth form in the London borough of Southwark. As of the most recent inspection there were 750 students on the school roll. The school is located close to the banks of the Thames, and the nearest Tube station is Bermondsey on the Jubilee line. In November 2012, the school became an academy managed by the St Michael’s Academy Trust. The sixth form first opened in 2011 and the first students completed their A-levels in 2013. The school is named for the archangel who defeated Satan.
