Job overview

Do you love PE and Sport and inspiring students to live healthy, active lifestyles?

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to continue to develop professionally in a well led and supportive environment. We believe that through an engaging curriculum that is broad and balanced our students will cultivate a passion for lifelong learning and enjoyment of PE where they constantly strive to improve. At Key Stage 3 students cover a range of team and individual activities. Our examination courses are popular options and we study OCR Sport Studies at Key Stage 4 and BTEC Sport at Key Stage 5.

We have access to a range of high quality facilities to implement our curriculum and extra-curricular programmes. These include an all-weather 3G pitch, multi-use sports hall, gymnasium, extensive grass areas and a multi games area (MUGA). We are also fortunate to have use of a plethora of table tennis tables, a full class compliment of mountain bikes, a full length multi height sports hall net and four trampolines. The department lead many trips each year including Ski trips to Italy, Wasps Netball matches, England Rugby six nations matches at Twickenham and European football matches at Manchester United.

Our Academy is a learning community of outstanding teachers and staff who wish to make a positive difference to the young people we serve.  The college is a popular choice for families in the local community and continues to be significantly oversubscribed for places in Year 7. This vacancy has arisen due to expansion of the College and continued oversubscription for places in Year 7, as well as significant growth in our Sixth Form.

John Henry Newman Catholic College is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will therefore be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) as well as providing evidence of qualifications.

We welcome our general duty under the Equality Act 2010 to eliminate discrimination, to advance equality of opportunity and to foster good relations, and our specific duties to publish information every year about our school population; to explain how we have due regard for equality; and to publish equality objectives which show how we plan to tackle particular inequalities, and reduce or remove them.

Applications must be submitted on the Catholic Education Service (CES) application form, also available to download at www.johnhenrynewmancatholiccollege.org.  You are very welcome to come and look around before you submit your application, please contact Mrs Lisa Maddison, PA to the Principal by email at lmaddison@jhncc.org or telephone on 0121 770 5331. Completed applications should be returned to Mrs Lisa Maddison.
