Longsands Academy is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, ambitious, and dedicated qualified teacher of Girls’ Physical Education from September 2019. The role will suit a PE specialist with the ability to teach Core PE, from Years 7-11 and examination classes (Year 10-13). With our strong examination provision offer this is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled teacher to pursue particular strengths and interests in exam PE.

The successful applicant will join a department with a very strong record of student achievement at all levels, and will teach across the age and ability range. Candidates must be willing to contribute to; A busy extra-curricular programme, fulfilment of team practices in one of our major sports; Hockey, Netball, Athletics, and preparation for our district/county competitions. We also offer further opportunities such as international tours, trips and visits.

The Academy enjoys some excellent facilities, including a fitness suite, astro-turf pitches, netball/tennis courts and extensive playing fields.

Longsands is brimming with potential.  The academy is at the heart of the community and has pledged to provide a rich, broad and varied education to all the pupils it serves. The academy and Trust are committed to a knowledge-rich curriculum and a traditional approach to teaching, behaviour and culture, influenced by Lemov’s Teach Like A Champion and Tom Bennett. We believe that schools must teach powerful knowledge, ’the best that has been thought and said’ and an ‘entitlement curriculum’ for all, with an underpinning philosophy that ‘education for all should confer the benefits associated with education for the rich’ (Michael Young).

We have recently launched the Astrea behaviour curriculum, where behaviour expectations and routines are explicitly taught and deliberately practised. The creation of a scholarly culture that is warm and strict, disciplined and joyful, where there is ‘purpose not power’, ensuring impeccable behaviour, where teachers can focus on teaching and pupils can focus on learning, underpins everything.
