Job overview

Forest School is seeking to appoint a first-rate specialist Teacher of Government and Politics.

The Government & Politics Department is well resourced and teachers are accommodated in a modern building, equipped with electronic whiteboards and audio-visual equipment. These classrooms are currently shared with the Economics and Business Department. The department is generously resourced with a wide range of textbooks, and, in common with all Forest School departments, the Government & Politics Department makes full use of opportunities offered in the digital and online realms. All pupils bring a keyboard-enabled device to all lessons, and make use of a wide range of subscriptions (including the Politics Review, the Economist and Pre-Chewed Politics), which are curated by the School’s Martin Centre Library.

Outside of the classroom, there is a flourishing Politics Society which is run by Y12 pupils as part of their work towards the Forest Sixth Form Diploma. Popular and entertaining half-termly Question Time events also take place, in which pupils respond to political questions having adopted a political stance. The school also possesses thriving MUN and Amnesty societies. Clinics and Oxbridge teaching are also offered by department members to provide support or stretch and challenge as required. The department runs a number of educational visits, including to Westminster, various academic conferences, and a biennial trip to Washington DC.

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 25 April 2018, Midnight

Interviews will be held on Friday, 4 May 2018

We are lucky to be located in this part of North East London, allowing us to attract pupils from a diverse range of social and ethnic backgrounds who share in being academically ambitious, but are grounded, engaging and very loyal to the School. Described by the Good Schools Guide as a ‘powerhouse with a heart’ and enjoying a reputation for strong expert teaching and learning, Forest pupils are encouraged to find success on all fronts through the breadth of the opportunities on offer to them.

We aim to develop the whole pupil through our distinct educational provision which gives equal weight to academic, co-curricular and pastoral strands of school life. To this end, Forest promotes all-round educational excellence, recognising that advancement to higher education or the world of work requires top academic grades but keen to develop a sense of service in the pupils and an awareness of their responsibilities to other people, as well as themselves. Forest is recognised as a school that is always evolving, self-evaluating and planning strategically for its future, while valuing its heritage and its location, all of which makes our community a stimulating one to work in for our 150+ teachers and 100+ non-teaching staff.
