Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Following Ofsted’s latest inspection in 2016, The National School and College Performance Tables not only identify Queen Mary’s College as one of the best in the region, but it also places it in the top 5% of all A- level providers across the country.

Located in pleasant surroundings on the edge of the town, the college has set up dedicated departmental areas with workspaces for teams.  The Health & Social Care team are staffed by a friendly and enthusiastic group of teachers who work closely together under the guidance of the Director of Learning for the area.  There are excellent relationship between staff and students and it is the tradition at Queen Mary’s for staff and students to be on first name terms.

Due to the popularity of this subject we have an exciting opportunity for a teacher of Health & Social Care.  This is a very popular subject choice at the College and our students are extremely successful, progressing to a wide range of pathways on completion of their studies – many progressing onto University.

The Health and Social Care team are committed to innovative approaches to teaching and learning and are encouraged to experiment with different ways for students to gain evidence for their portfolio work. The team is high performing and committed to sharing good practice.  The subject area is one of the largest vocational areas in the college and has notable success in attracting and retaining students. Pass, completion rates and ALPS are excellent.  The teaching team has a reputation for being extremely supportive to students and staff alike.  Staff work closely together to share good practice, plan schemes of work and resources.  

The courses are well resourced with large dedicated teaching rooms. Innovation in teaching approaches is very much welcomed and supported.  We aim to create constructive and supportive relationships with our students.

We currently offer courses from the OCR QCF suite including Level 2 Health and Social Care, L3 Extended Diploma equivalent and a single A Level equivalent in Health and Social Care.

Queen Mary’s College is a large progressive and successful sixth form college, conveniently situated close to the centre of Basingstoke in thirty acres of parkland and playing fields. The College has excellent facilities, including the Central Studio (a professional theatre), and a purpose built sports centre for students, staff and local residents, including a swimming pool and two floodlit artificial sports pitches . The site also boasts a state of the art specialist Art and IT building and in January this year a new £12.8 million, three-storey facility was opened designed to accommodate Science, Humanities, Sport and students with learning difficulties and disabilities . Queen Mary’s College is continuing to enhance all aspects of estates and facilities. Teaching and Learning outcomes at the College are excellent. Staff and students enjoy working and studying here and being in the vanguard of educational development in a fast changing 14-19 environment.
