History is one of our most successful departments with a well-equipped suite of rooms in a separate block shared with RE. We also have a dedicated Administrative Assistant who supports some lessons and carries out some administrative duties on behalf of departmental staff.

Following an inspection in May 2013, we are proud to say that we retained our “outstanding” Ofsted judgement; our Sixth Form was described as “first class” and the behaviour of our pupils ‘impeccable’.  There is a strong focus on in-house professional development and ‘supported accountability’.

A covering letter should accompany all applications.

Values and vision

The Nelson Thomlinson School wants all students to achieve academic excellence in a caring and nurturing learning environment. It works at maintaining strong relationships with parents and pupils and believes that in order to succeed, a three-way partnership needs to exist. The school has the motto: Fide et Operis, translating from Latin to Faith and Works. Ofsted’s most recent visit in October 2023 highlighted our strong traditions and a school where pupils (and staff) are proud to live out it’s values. NTS also has a dedicated Professional Development department where opportunities for staff development and training are made a priority.
