Job overview

Teacher of History

Salary: MPS

Contract Type: Full time

Contract Term: Permanent

Start Date: 1st September 2020

We require a well-qualified and deeply enthusiastic History teacher to ensure the progression and wellbeing of our students. We are looking for an individual able to fulfil a team role that will complement the energy, dynamism and originality of thought present in our established team. There may be an opportunity to contribute to another area of Humanities, for example KS5 Sociology but this isn’t essential to this role. This post would suit an NQT or a teacher of experience, and as your professional development is important to us, there are highly supportive induction programmes and CPD opportunities available during your time at the school.

Our current team offer a range of extra-curricular support sessions to ensure students reach their full potential, and if successful, we would hope that you would share this ethic.

The school overlooks the Jurassic coast and within such inspiring surroundings a commitment to teaching through wider learning experiences and fieldwork is essential. Budmouth’s location within a world heritage site is ideally situated to many aspects of Geographical and Historical enquiry and the department strives to provide learning opportunities that take advantage of this whilst continuing to explore further a-field with educational trips to Iceland, The Somme and New York embarked upon over the past four years.

Budmouth Academy Weymouth is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.  We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community.

For specific information regarding the position, please contact the Subject Coordinator for Humanities Mr Martin Pick; mpick@budmouth-aspirations.org. An information pack including the Application form, Job Description, Person Specification, and Statement of Child Protection summary can be found on the Budmouth Academy Weymouth website. The Application form should be completed and sent to Mrs Charlotte Reed; Director of Business and Support Services; creed@budmouth-aspirations.org

Closing Date: 29th May 2020

Interview Date: TBC

We also have the only Sixth Form in the Weymouth and Portland area, meaning that we have the privilege of taking children from aged 11 right through to 18, and our excellent provision ensures that they are ready for the adult world. We encourage high aspirations for all our students and every year we send students off to some of the best universities in the country.

We strive to provide high quality learning for all in an environment that is both supportive of individuals and fosters high aspirations for everyone. However, we believe that a great education is about much more than just exam results. We aspire for all of our students to have a school experience that gives them access to a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Whether it is through Sport, Drama, Art, Music, Business and careers events, school trips, languages, Ten Tors or Duke of Edinburgh adventures. We hope that everyone will take up the opportunities that will add that all important ‘extra’ to their school experience.
