Job overview

The Role

We are seeking an outstanding classroom teacher to join this rapidly develping subject area.  The post would suit a NQT with the ability to teach A Level essential.  Highcliffe is a thriving over-subscribed 11 to 18 Academy in the New Forest, near the sandy beaches of Christchurch and Bournemouth and the water sports in Poole. An outstanding area to live and work in.

Our School

We are an outwardly focused community with extensive school links in Germany, France, Spain and Japan. Our Ofsted in October 2017 confirmed the school as Good and identified the Sixth Form as a particular strength.Former students, current students and their parents frequently speak of their powerful emotional bonds to our school lasting a lifetime. This is a result of our caring and aspirational ethos combined with our engaging curriculum and excellent package of extra-curricular opportunities.

The History Department

The department is extremely well led, highly motivated and this is an exciting time for a very strong classroom teacher to join our History Department.

GCSE and A Level examination outcomes in History are a key improvement priority for the school. In 2016 the Progress score for the two classes who sat History was -0.76 FFT measure.  At A Level, the subject achieved ALPs Grade of 6, 4, 7 and 5 respectively since 2013, from 30 A2 students. Following a period working with an experienced former Head of History in 2015/16 the department has implemented a revised Key Stage 3 curriculum, which has begun to raise expectations of learning in History and increase the number of students choosing it as a GCSE Option. In 2017 A Level performance improved and an exceptionally strong cohort of 20 Year 12's were recruited to the subject. Further improvements have been seen after appointing a new Head of History in 2017. The school expects to return its best GCSE History results ever in 2018, potentially at a GCSE ALPS score of 3.  Extra-curricular trips and excursions include a Year 8 First World War Battlefields trip, a Year 10 trip to Berlin and a Sixth Form trip to Russia. The department also has a history of supporting students in their applications to study history and history-related degrees at Russell Group universities.

The ability to teach another Humanities subject such as Geography or RS or to teach Sociology would be welcome but is not essential.
