The History Department at Bishop Thomas Grant School prides itself on instilling in students a passion and love for History. We want students feel inspired and energised by their History lessons, which promote an enjoyment in the study of the past. We encourage teaching staff to be creative and innovative in their teaching practice. We are an experienced team of teachers and so the opportunities for internal CPD are significant. 

The success of the Department’s ethos is evident in our outstanding A Level results: 50% of students achieved A and A* grades in 2018, with 77% achieving A*-B and 92% A*-C. 79% achieved 4+ in History at GCSE, with 62% of students achieving 5+ and 28% 7+. History is one of the most popular A-Level and GCSE options with two classes in both Y12 and 13 and about half the year group choosing History at GCSE.  

Attainment at the school is significantly above national averages for virtually all subjects and all groups of students.  OFSTED REPORT OCTOBER 2014 Bishop Thomas Grant School is an 11-18 Catholic co-educational comprehensive school and was rated outstanding in all areas in October 2014

At Key Stage 3, we focus on enjoying the study of the past. Students are encouraged to develop a love and passion for the study of History. We follow the AQA History GCSE at Key Stage 4 and at A Level. Our A-Level teachers are highly experienced, possessing excellent subject knowledge.  

Above all, the History Department at Bishop Thomas Grant School is highly collaborative and supportive, ensuring that its teachers adopt a corporate approach without sacrificing our creativity and independence.
