Job overview

Peter Symonds is located in Winchester. It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. Our College motto is ‘Counting in Ones’ and we work hard to make this a supportive and friendly place to study, with every student treated as an individual. Not only is this at the heart of our work with our students, but we also strive to support and value our staff in the same way.

We have a vacancy for a Teacher of History either full time or substantial part time to cover for a colleague who is due to go on maternity leave soon after the October half term. This post is therefore temporary until her return; if she does not return then it will be reviewed. It is a rare opportunity to gain experience in a large History team of ten enthusiastic staff who work closely, sharing resources and strategies. Students may choose to follow either a modern or early course, many achieving the highest grades. We seek a committed teacher, either experienced or newly qualified, although a familiarity with methods of coursework assessment would be an advantage.

For further information, please refer to the background information, job description and person specification for the role.

Closing date: 12 noon on Wednesday 19 September 2018

Interview date: Wednesday 3 October 2018

We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.

A large number of our students each year, usually around fifty, are able to secure places at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Pastoral support is well resourced and students also benefit from an unusual range of music, sporting and other enrichment opportunities.
