TEACHER OF HISTORY

Full time, temporary for 1 year in the first instance

Required for September 2019

We are looking for a passionate history teacher, with a real love for the subject and a commitment to communicating this passion clearly to young people. History at WPS is consistently one of the school’s most popular options at GCSE and A level and benefits from a clear curriculum that stretches across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. The subject is successful in both outcomes and uptake at both Key Stage 4 and 5, meaning there is ample opportunity to teach a range of classes.

Our school campus is unique and offers a splendid setting to teach in. The school site is closely associated with events as far reaching as the English Civil War and World War Two. We can even boast the presence of an on site archive which is enjoyed by our extra-curricular programme which includes an archaeology club. We are a department that values external visits and there is the opportunity to get involved in a residential Battlefields Trip and the possibility of a Berlin trip, linked to the KS4 curriculum.

The successful applicant will be creative, an excellent communicator and committed to inclusive education. We wish to find a teacher who is rich in their knowledge of History and committed to developing their curriculum expertise in a way that meets the needs of our school’s context. Applications are invited from NQTs or experienced teachers. There may be the opportunity to teach our Personal Development (PSHE) curriculum alongside History.

History is part of a family of subjects in a school where our values are Everyone Learning and Everyone Caring. The school fosters an exceptional atmosphere of support and teamwork, placing a strong emphasis on wellbeing. As part of our school, you will be supported through:

- An existing, rigorous, curriculum that places planning as a practise in developing expertise, not creating resources from scratch.

- Sensible and impactful whole class feedback approaches which minimises time spent marking and maximises the time students spending acting on the feedback you give.

- Working in the ambitious atmosphere of a school that has enjoyed being one the most improved schools in Oxfordshire and wants to progress further through sustainable and person-centred measures for improvement.

Situated just east of Oxford on a unique parkland site, Wheatley Park School is a successful 11- 18 academy with a vibrant comprehensive intake. Our vision is to be a sustainably outstanding school in accordance with our values of Everyone Learning and Everyone Caring.

Our school is part of the River Learning Trust; our collective vision is to be a Trust where pupils and staff thrive in schools which demonstrate:

● all-round education, academic success, lifelong learning and strength of character

● sustainable continuous improvement; no school standing still

● all schools being good and outstanding, or improving rapidly

● collaboration that is raising standards, and reducing workload

● where pupils, staff, parents and communities value all we do to support the best possible outcomes and experiences for our children and young people

If you would like to know more, or arrange a visit, please contact Mrs Pat Mason (HR Manager) on 01865 877634 or by email to pmason@wheatleypark.org.  Full details can be found on our website www.wheatleypark.org. Wheatley Park School and the River Learning Trust are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and preventing extremism.  All staff are expected to share this commitment.  The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. The River Learning Trust is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from a range of backgrounds to represent diversity in line with our schools’ community.
