Dunottar School - Job Description

Dunottar is a co-educational school for pupils aged 11-18 set in extensive grounds of 15 acres on the outskirts of Reigate. With a new Headmaster in September 2017, the school is on a very exciting journey.  The school is experiencing fast growth in pupil numbers and it is undergoing a £6.6 million capital development programme to build a new Sixth Form Centre and a whole school Assembly Hall to accommodate future growth.

Dunottar is a great place to work, with a team of highly professional and committed teachers and support staff.  We incorporate best practice from independent schools and academies right across the United Learning Group, whilst retaining our unique, friendly ethos in Reigate where pupils are nurtured to make significant personal progress at the same time as achieving excellent academic results.  United Learning is an organisation which prides itself on providing a working and learning environment which encourages ‘the best in everyone’.  You will join a network of staff belonging to 66 other schools, with opportunities to engage with fellow professionals which far exceed what one school could achieve on its own.  Personal development and career opportunities are excellent.

The History Department

The History Department at Dunottar is a forward thinking and highly successful department having  been awarded a Gold Quality Mark Award from the Historical Association in 2017.

It is a popular subject across all key stages with a strong take-up at GCSE and A Level. We engage students in lessons by using a wide range of teaching strategies. To complement the work in class, we undertake a number of trips which currently include a trip to Berlin, World War One trenches and Hampton Court Palace.  As a  Department we have also been responsible for implementing the initiative for a cross-curricular World War One day.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher who shares our passion for History and a desire to make History accessible to all at Dunottar. We seek to appoint an outstanding teacher; one who has the vision, enthusiasm and energy to help develop further the work of the department, alongside contributing to the exciting journey that Dunottar is on. The post offers an exciting challenge for someone with initiative and imagination to make a difference. We welcome applications from an experienced Teacher looking for a career move or NQT candidates, which may be completed through United Teaching (www.unitedteaching.org.uk).
