The Humanities department comprises of Geography and History and has a team of 8 full and part time teaching staff. The department is friendly, supportive and innovative and enjoys considerable success in examinations at GCSE and A level. Teachers use Collegiate issued Surface Pros to support their lessons. The KS3 Geography curriculum is designed to develop awe and wonder in our world and an interest in the subject whilst developing the skills and background content required for GCSE. At A level, we study the Edexcel specification specialising in the optional units of Coastal Landscapes, Migration, Identity and Sovereignty, and Regenerating Places. The department is well resourced and is highly regarded in terms of teaching, learning and pupil feedback/support.

The department works very closely together, with most staff teaching both Geography and History at KS3. All pupils study both Humanities in Year 7 and Year 8 and then opt in Year 9, although a large number continue with both subjects. Uptake at GCSE and A level continues to be positive. Lesson resources are stored centrally and every teacher contributes, thereby encouraging the sharing of best practice and providing a consistent experience for all pupils.
