Job overview

Teacher of Humanities – ASCEND (Ormiston Park Academy)

Are you a creative, resilient, courageous teacher, who is passionate about changing the lives of young people and inspiring students within a unique small school?

Are you looking for an exciting new challenge?

We are seeking to appoint an excellent teacher with enthusiasm, resilience and a commitment to impact positively to make a lasting difference to the students based in our ASCEND provision at Ormiston Park Academy.

At ASCEND, we believe that to learn to full potential a student must be emotionally, mentally and physically ready. The curriculum delivered at ASCEND works to specifically develop all three of these areas. Physical and emotional wellbeing is vital for effective learning to take place. These two areas form a substantial part of the taught curriculum and daily activities.

You will need to be able to plan and deliver engaging lessons based on the National Curriculum differentiated to meet the needs of our students.  The successful candidate will work with a small group of learners, offering a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum designed to meet the individual needs of our students. You will harness the joy of learning and enable our students to make progress towards academic and EHCP outcomes.

Our teachers have the support and flexibility to plan and deliver a curriculum for individual and small group learning, applying their individual specialist interests and skills. Visits to other educational facilities make up an important part of our curriculum. These may be to develop awareness, experience something new or build knowledge and understanding around a relevant topic.

In return for your hard work, you will receive fantastic support, CPD opportunities through the academy and wider Ormiston Academy Trust, a wealth of staff benefits, and the priceless reward of knowing that you are truly making a difference.

Ormiston Park is a growing 11-16 Academy. Our vision of ‘Believe and Achieve’ underpins all aspects of academy life in our impressive, well-resourced, buildings and grounds. You will join a caring and committed body of staff and enjoy working with friendly and enthusiastic students of whom we are extremely proud. You will play a vital role in providing the highest quality provision, impacting positively on outcomes for our students, ensuring aspirations become reality. Ormiston Park Academy is an Ofsted graded ‘good’ school.

Values and vision

Ormiston Park Academy’s work is guided by four fundamental principles: personalisation, globalism, innovation and inclusion.

These principles drive the secondary school to provide an education that is: designed to meet its students’ individual needs (personalisation); aimed at opening its students’ eyes to the world (globalism); always at the forefront of developments in learning (innovation); and designed to serve local families (inclusion).

Ofsted report

“The progress of the small number of students with special educational needs who attend the ASCEND unit is good, as is the care and support that they receive. Most teachers now have high ambitions for those they teach and challenge students to meet them. As a result, achievement is rising, particularly in English and mathematics, and especially for disadvantaged students. Students’ conduct around the academy site is generally positive. Behaviour within lessons is much improved. Levels of temporary exclusion are declining. Students feel safe and secure at the academy.”
