Job overview

Up to 0.7 FTE

Copleston High School is a popular 11-18 mixed comprehensive noted for its caring and disciplined atmosphere. It was judged as a 'Good school with outstanding features' by Ofsted in April 2013. As a school we are committed to raising standards of learning and teaching within all subject areas. You will be impressed by the outstanding sports facilities available to staff, students and the wider community.

You will teach ICT across the ability range at KS3 and KS4. You will have high standards and be committed to meeting the needs of all students whilst developing a positive working relationship with students. At KS3 students follow a SOW designed by the school in line with the new Computing/ICT curriculum. At KS4 and KS5 the department offers three possible pathways:

  • Computer Science (OCR GCSE at KS4 and OCR GCE at KS5)
  • IT (Edexcel GCSE / AQA Technical Award Level 2 in ICT at KS4, OCR GCE ICT / BTEC Level 3 at KS5)
  • Graphic Communication (AQA GCSE at KS4 and AQA GCE at KS5).

Being able to teach the Computer Science curriculum at KS4 would be a plus but is not mandatory as the timetable would focus mainly on ICT/Computing in year 7/8 and ICT in year 9, 10 and 11. Some experience in the creative aspects of ICT (graphic communication and multimedia editing skills) would be a real strength to your application.

  • An ability to teach another subject(s) would be an advantage.

The school has a strongly supportive ethos and is deeply committed to the professional development of staff. We offer an excellent induction programme to all colleagues who join us.

Applications are welcome from both experienced teachers, who are looking to broaden their experience, and from newly qualified teachers. We could pay an NQT from 1 July 2017.

Values and vision

The principal objective of the school is to help all students to achieve their best. Copleston High School cultivates a caring,  warm and vibrant environment for students, designed to help them thrive. The school celebrates student successes in as many ways as possible, including through posters around the school, in achievement assemblies and through “celebration evenings”, which emphasise that Copleston values all students as individuals.

The school aims to enable every student to be as successful academically and socially as possible. It believes that young people should communicate effectively, co-operate in teams, use new technology with confidence, develop research skills, and take responsibility for their own learning. However, it also believes that looking forward should not be at the expense of traditional standards.

Readiness for life beyond school is central to what Copleston offers its students.

Ofsted

“Students who need extra help are given good support. As a result, they are making at least as good progress as other students and the gaps between different groups are closing.”

“Students’ numeracy and literacy skills are developed well through a range of activities. Teaching assistants and support workers contribute well in lessons and make sure that all students understand their tasks.”
