The School is actively seeking a part-time Teacher of Individual Needs 0.6 – 0.8 fte based at our Ivanhoe Campus. This role is responsible for promoting and ensuring an inclusive educational environment through the coordination, oversight and monitoring of students with learning support needs across Years 7 to 12. This will include working with a caring and dedicated team of learning support assistants and supporting teachers with the planning and delivery of individual learning plans. Ideally commencing as soon as possible however a term 3 can be accommodated.

Working cross campus with Individual Needs Coordinators, the Teacher of Individual Needs will ensure compliance with regulatory authorities.  They will work with teachers to develop necessary strategies and skills within students to foster learning, independence and confidence, to facilitate ongoing progress and attain optimal educational outcomes.

About you

You will work collaboratively with all staff within the learning support team.

Ensuring that classroom teachers have the information required for them to differentiate practices to address individual needs.

Assist in the identification, development and facilitation of all support programs to meet the learning needs of students as required.

Provide literacy and numeracy support for Years 7 – 12.

Liaise with classroom teachers regarding curriculum differentiation and strategies to assist special needs students.

Liaise with teachers to plan appropriate programs for students needing support.

Coordinate special provisions for student assessments in accordance with the Disability & Discrimination Act and VCAA/IB policies.

Principal

Gerard Foley is the Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School, commencing in November 2015, and is only the fifth Principal of the School in its more than 100-year history.

Gerard leads the School into a new era with the firm beliefs that all students have the capacity to succeed, that community and caring for others is paramount and that education can provide outstanding opportunities for all who embrace it.

Gerard was Acting Principal of the School throughout 2014, after being appointed Deputy Principal in 2011 and the Head of The Ridgeway Campus in 2008. His career has spanned roles in the independent and government sector, including the Head of Senior School at Overnewton Anglican College and Year 12 Level Manager/VCE Coordinator at Eltham College.

Gerard’s key aims are to assist students to develop their unique potential by providing a range of rich experiences through academic opportunities, the creative and performing arts, sport, outdoor education, intercultural understanding, leadership and service to others. He believes that active, engaged, critical and empathetic global citizens are created through exposure to local and international issues via the curriculum, and a range of community and international experiences.

More than 100 years since it opened its doors in 1915 with 12 students in a Parish Hall, Ivanhoe Grammar School has grown to become one of Melbourne’s leading private schools. Curriculum

The Ivanhoe Grammar’s senior years program and curriculum helps students prepare for the challenges of VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) over three years rather than two. The school also offers the International Baccalaureate and VCE at the Ivanhoe Campus and VCE at the Plenty Campus.
