The Abbey School is a selective IAPS girls’ school which prides itself at every stage on its high standards in all areas of pastoral care, the curriculum and beyond. The Junior School (currently approx 370 girls aged 3-11 years) is located a short distance from the Senior School and is very well resourced. Our dedicated and creative staff and well behaved and enthusiastic pupils, make it an excellent environment in which committed teachers can flourish and contribute in their individual ways to a varied and colourful curricular and extra-curricular programme. There is a nurturing, vibrant and purposeful atmosphere where girls are keen to learn and to succeed.
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
We seek an experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic and confident PE teacher to join our vibrant department. Applications are welcomed from candidates seeking to take on more responsibility and continue their professional development.
This post would suit a dynamic and well qualified Physical Education teacher with strong experience in swimming as well as either hockey, football or cricket. A firm commitment to helping our girls to grow in confidence, skills and knowledge within a caring, nurturing environment is essential. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and energetic PE teacher, with excellent leadership and organisational skills. The successful candidate will need to be a self-aware, reflective and caring professional with high expectations of pupil’s sporting attainment and be able to form excellent relationships with parents, pupils and colleagues. Experience of the independent sector would be an advantage.
The Junior School has its own well-equipped gymnasium, netball courts and small all-weather pitch. In addition, Junior School girls use the indoor 25m swimming pool and full size all-weather hockey pitch at the Senior School. The successful candidate should be committed to teaching all ages from 4-11, with the ability to encourage, enthuse and inspire pupils through participation in physical activity, building upon the strength of the subject throughout the school. A confidence in teaching and umpiring hockey and netball as well as a flair for gymnastics and dance at KS2 would be ideal.

Salary and Benefits
The salary, according to qualifications and experience, follows the Teachers Pay Scale, enhanced by The Abbey School Allowance. This will be pro rated accordingly.
Lunch will be provided.
Staff fee concession is available to employees’ daughters who satisfy the entrance requirements and for whom there is a place available.

The Abbey School is a dynamic and vibrant community of more than 1,000 girls aged 3-18.
The Abbey is always in the top division nationally in academic terms. This year's A-levels were excellent with 75% at A*- B and at GCSE 88% gained 9-7 grades. Annually the average International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma result is between 38 - 40 points, with more than two thirds of the cohort scoring 38 points or higher, at a level equivalent to or exceeding the Oxford and Cambridge conditional offer range.
