Job overview

Repton School is seeking to appoint a qualified Teacher of LAMDA to join its outstanding Drama department.

The Drama Department

The 400 Hall is home to the Drama department, originally built to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the School. Following a multi-million-pound redevelopment in 2011, the theatre was redesigned to provide a capacity of 315 seats on two levels, in a similar theatre design of the horseshoe form developed for the Jerwood Vanbrugh Theatre at RADA, gives pupils the learning environment to explore and perform in a diverse variety of theatre styles. Included within the re-development was the addition of a modern and adaptable ‘black box’ Studio Theatre, which supports a dedicated teaching space as well as offering the flexibility to perform and host both intimate drama pieces.

The Drama department offers successful GCSE Drama and A Level Drama and Theatre courses as well as the provision of LAMDA qualification in both Performance and Communication examinations.

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent in Drama and have prior experience of being involved in a teacher environment. The post-holder will provide LAMDA lessons to both pairs or individuals and be able to work independent and collaboratively within the Drama department team.

Repton School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for 13- to 18-year-olds. Situated in Repton, Derbyshire, the school hosts around 620 pupils. Former students have included Roald Dahl and Jeremy Clarkson.

The school was founded in 1557 and has grown considerably since; it now boasts a science priory, which was built in 2013, plus multi-purpose laboratories and a 3D lecture theatre. The music school has been redeveloped and the school theatre has been redesigned to include tier seating.

Repton was previously a 12th-century priory and the remaining part of the priory is known as Prior Overton’s Tower, which has been incorporated into a 19th-century building in honour of the school's historical beginnings. For pupils who stay on campus, there are 10 houses – six for boys and four for girls.
