Job overview

The School:

Barnardiston Hall is a well-regarded, independent, co-educational day and boarding school set in 36 acres of Suffolk countryside.  It caters for children from 6 months to 13 years and is rated ‘Good with Outstanding Features’ by ISI.  It offers an exceptionally strong extra-curricular programme to its pupils who are known for their resilience and determination!

Situated some 10 minutes from the nearest town and 30 minutes from Cambridge, the School attracts pupils from the surrounding area as well as from overseas.  The School is very well resourced and has an excellent reputation among receiving senior schools who consider our children to be well-rounded individuals who are confident and happy learners.  We offer boarding to approximately 25 children, with many more ‘casual boarding’ during the week.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a strong language teacher with the ability to teach at least two languages out of Spanish, Latin and French.  Either experienced or an NQT, you would be a part of a strong teaching team delivering lessons to children from age 3 to 13+ Common Entrance level.  An ability to teach other subjects to KS2 and KS3 would be an advantage.

What we offer:

Candidates with children aged 3 months to 13 years will be offered a generous reduction on fees in the School as well as membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.  Salary is Main Scale.  The post can be residential and single accommodation can be provided in return for boarding duties.

About Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School

Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School caters for girls and boys aged 2-13 years. Pupils are prepared for Common Entrance and entry to Independent and State Schools.

Set in 32 acres of grounds on the borders of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, the School offers individual all-round education for boys and girls, both day and boarding (weekly and full). High standards are achieved by small classes (average 14 children, maximum 20) who are taught by graduate and teacher-trained staff. There is a caring approach and close liaison with parents.

With the completion of a major new extension, we now believe that we offer some of the very best classroom facilities of any school in the area whilst our Pre-Prep Department enables younger children to learn in bright and spacious classrooms, in a traditional building full of character and charm.
