Job overview

‘There is a culture of high expectations and ambition that is shared by staff. Everyone wants the best for the pupils’ Ofsted 2016

Broadlands Academy is an 11-16 learning community and proud to be part of Academies Enterprise Trust family of schools. We are a small, mixed, fully inclusive comprehensive school taking children from ages 11 to 16 and remain one of the best choices for learning in the area.   For every student who attends our Academy, we aim to raise their aspirations, broaden their horizons and promote a life-long love of learning.  We are situated in extensive grounds and ideally located between Bath and Bristol.  We benefit from a number of links with the local community and have an excellent reputation.  Broadlands has started to develop its post 16 learning on site.

As a smaller than average school we are fortunate to be able to really get to know each and every student. Over the last 3 years we have made great strides in school improvement and we believe we are at an exciting stage of our development. Our GCSE results in 2017 were pleasing and we were delighted that a greater number of students than the national average have achieved the new ‘9’ grade (above an A* standard) in both English and Maths. An amazing 10% of students achieved over 8 GCSEs at a grade A or higher.

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated Teacher of Literacy and Numeracy to join our experienced and effective SEND team with immediate effect. This is a fixed term post until 31 August 2018 pending SEND funding for 2018/19. This role requires the post holder to be responsible for ensuring accelerated progress, high quality curriculum provision and effective teaching and learning for students with SEND and particularly those in the transition phase.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is prepared to make a difference to the on-going development of the whole child and may be of interest to a primary practitioner wanting to extend their skills in a SEND department within the secondary sector.

We are looking to appoint an individual who has:

  • Achieved Qualified Teacher status.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Key Stage 1 and 2 Curriculum.
  • Experience in teaching and the ability to motivate a diverse student body.

This is a part time (0.4) post with the proposed working days being Thursday and Friday but applicants who wish to wish to work on different days or hours will also be considered.

The Academy has made rapid progress since that point and has celebrated four consecutive years of results above the national average. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within an outstanding SEND team and benefit from a comprehensive professional development programme supported through the sponsor, Academies Enterprise Trust.

As the sponsor, AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners – to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them. In each of our academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes. You will also be entitled to the following benefits: a health cash plan, vehicle affinity scheme, childcare vouchers and Westfield rewards.

This position is required to commence as soon as possible.

Closing date: Sunday 29 October 2017

Interviews are scheduled to take place w/c Monday 30 October 2017.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.  All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

In line with our safeguarding practices we are unable to accept CV's. For further information on this position and to make an application please click apply on the TES advert.

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  A Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate will be required for all posts. This post will be subject to enhanced checks as part of our Prevent Duty.

At Broadlands Academy, our vision is to inspire our young people to set themselves aspirational goals based on their unique skills, talents and dreams.

As a small 11-16 secondary school that has been serving its local community since 1935, we cultivate a ‘family feel’ and sense of belonging among our students, and believe that nurture is essential for academic, personal and social success. We are an inclusive community, which welcomes and celebrates students of all backgrounds and starting points, and which promotes diversity and fairness.

As well as cherishing and supporting our students, we believe in challenging them to achieve excellence in everything that they do. We have the highest of expectations of behaviour, and pledge that every classroom in our school will be a disruption-free learning environment. Similarly, we have aspirational academic goals for every student, and do not believe in placing a ceiling on what any young person can achieve. For this reason, our classes in Years 7, 8 and 9 are taught in mixed performance groupings, and we aim to challenge every student in every lesson. Where students need additional or different tools to reach our aspirational aims, these are provided by our expert teachers, who benefit from the guidance of our excellent SEN and pastoral teams. Our Key Stage 4 results in 2022 show significant improvement from the last set of externally marked examinations in 2019, both in terms of attainment and progress.

At Broadlands, we recognise the importance of building young people’s character as well as their academic success.  We run a wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs, and aim to enhance and deepen our students’ learning experiences with educational and cultural visits where possible. Our excellent Careers advice and strong links with employers and post-16 providers mean that we are able to prepare our students fully for their chosen pathways.
