Job overview

We are St Catherine's College, preparing students to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers, locally, nationally and globally.

Staff and students are proud of our college.  We have talented and highly motivated students and staff.  Our staff team work tirelessly to ensure that teaching is the best it can be and everyone has a role to play in this.  We support each other and there is an open, friendly and collegiate atmosphere within our staff team.

We are an Investors in People Gold Award School, which means that we invest heavily and value the development of all our staff.

MFL offers a well established French and Spanish curriculum and we are one of the only state schools in East Sussex that teaches Mandarin Chinese to GCSE.

We are a Confucius Classroom School which means a strong link is built with Goldsmith's University London.

We have a vacancy for a Teacher of Mandarin.  This can either be a full time or part time post.  Required for January 2020 or earlier if a teacher is able to be released from their current school prior to this date.  You may have noticed that we have recently advertised for a Teacher of Mandarin that can also teach French.  We are re-advertising and would be happy to accept applications for a Teacher of Mandarin who can't offer a second language.  You must be a QTS qualified teacher with right to work in the UK and experience of teaching Mandarin to GCSE in a secondary school.

Our MFL department supports its students and staff by investing in smaller class sizes, language assistants, technology and plentiful online learning platform subscriptions.

We run regular school trips, for example to China; welcome exchange groups from Peru and have MFL activities such as singing competitions and international bake off.  We believe an innovative and immersive curriculum will spark our pupil's passion and truly engage their MFL learning.

As mentioned, we host the Confucius classroom to promote Mandarin language and Chinese culture through The Goldsmiths Confucius Institute.  This provides a long term Mandarin learning support to our college as well as a sponsored Chinese teacher and resources.  It offers a positive dimension to all curriculum areas and helps raise student's aspirations and attainment, preparing them for working and living in an increasingly competitive global economy.

We know it's a competitive market and are proud of what we can offer:

Excellent career development opportunities

We are St Catherine's College. We are a Church of England Academy that has children at the heart of everything we do.

Our smart, well behaved pupils are happy and proud of their school. We are a high achieving school with children who are well prepared for their next steps in life.

We are fixed upon progress for all. Pupils benefit from smaller classes in English and Maths, as well as additional support when they need an extra boost to accelerate their progress. We are blessed with excellent teachers who are happy and stay here. The teachers, the tutors and our expansive pastoral team work with each child to help find their 'missing piece' so that they can reach their God-given potential.

We are different, and what sets us apart is that we are the only Church of England Secondary School / Academy in East Sussex. Parents send their children here because we insist upon high standards and firm boundaries, all underpinned by our Christian foundation.

We are a college that teaches and explores the value of resilience. This resilience is in part why our students are more likely to stay on and succeed in further education than their peers nationally.

We are creative and maintain a broad and varied curriculum with Art, Dance, Drama, Music, Food Technology and Motor Vehicle all featuring in our curriculum as we recognise the value of developing the whole child experience. Beyond a rich mix of Sport, Drama, Dance and Music, we also offer chess, gaming, our Mandarin Academy, host the Pauline Quirk Academy and offer so much more...

We are St Catherine's and it is our mission that every child achieves his/her God-given potential. We aim for every student to rise to challenges, to enjoy learning and to feel a sense of belonging.
