As one of the first state schools in the North East selected to join Swire Chinese Language Centre Newcastle to participate in their exciting Chinese Language Programme, Whitburn C of E Academy is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and exceptional teacher of Mandarin. Our motto ‘Excellence for All’ is at the heart of our work: our ethos as an Anglican academy is entirely inclusive and no faith based pupil admission criteria are applied.

This exciting post provides opportunity for students to acquire skills in the most widely-spoken language in the world, as well as generate an interest in Chinese culture. Supported by SWIRE Chinese Language Foundation and Swire Chinese Language Centre Newcastle, this post initially involves teaching Mandarin at Key Stage 3 and GCSE, as well as delivering HSK courses as part of our Sixth Form enrichment programme. The successful candidate will also deliver an outreach programme to our main feeder primary schools.

You will join a highly effective MFL Department and become a part of the family of SWIRE Chinese Language Centres around the country that regularly meet to share effective pedagogy and to improve and expand Chinese teaching in the UK.

The successful candidates will have:

  • the ability to effectively teach Mandarin across key stages 3, 4 and 5
  • an absolute commitment to pupil progress and their learning above all else
  • a genuine passion for Chinese culture and strong ICT skills to enhance learning
