Teacher of Mathematics - April or August 2021

A teacher of Mathematics is sought for Southern International School Hat Yai,  a rapidly growing, co-educational, pre-school to age 18 Cambridge International School in the prosperous and friendly southern Thai city of Hat Yai. We are an accredited examination centre for Cambridge International Examinations and  received the  ISQM Silver accreditation through the Education Development Trust in June2019. We are still the only externally accredited international school in the city.

Southern International School (SIH) is a young and ambitious school with a ‘can-do’ attitude and we are looking for a teacher who can bring a love of Mathematics to the classroom, develop enquiring minds and inspire our students to achieve the best results possible.

The successful candidate would be expected to teach the Cambridge Mathematics syllabus across the secondary school and work with the Primary section to ensure the strong progress made there is built upon at Key Stage 3 and beyond. We subscribe to MyiMaths and the classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard. Given that most of our students have English as their second language, the abilities to support language learning, differentiate effectively and adopt a patient approach are vital.

While the post will suit a newly or recently qualified teacher, we also welcome experienced applicants. There is the possibility of a senior leadership role as Secondary Leader in August 2021 for suitable candidates. This post carries an additional allowance.

Our children are mostly Thai and from other Asian countries with parents who are committed to giving their children an international education. Our parents are extremely loyal and supportive, and participate in many school events and activities.

The successful candidate will be joining the school at an exciting period in its development. There are opportunities to develop yourself professionally and personally in a safe, happy, supportive environment. Hat Yai in Songkhla province has grown from a small but busy commercial town into a lively but manageable city of a little over a million, surrounded by rice paddies, forested hills and waterfalls. The tourist hot spots of Krabi, Trang and Phuket are easily accessible for long weekend trips, but there are several unspoiled destinations much closer to home. New upmarket bistros and restaurants are springing up seemingly overnight, adding to the cosmopolitan feel of this welcoming city. Accommodation is cheap and varied, from Thai-style houses to newly built, self-contained condominiums with shared swimming pools. Hat Yai is a wonderful, safe city that provides a great quality of life, and this partly explains why so many of our staff choose to renew their contracts.

COVID-19 statement:

We feel relatively safe in Southern Thailand and compared to most countries the infection rate is very low. Given the precautions taken by the Thai government to keep it that way, it is extremely difficult to get foreign teachers into Thailand, but we have managed to recruit overseas teachers in August 2020 and January 2021. Our admin team are excellent and incredibly supportive.

At the time of writing, the preconditions are:

• A Certificate of Entry issued by the immigration department (we help you get that)
• A Visa ( we help you get that and pay for it)
• Health Insurance covering COVID-19 ( we get you that and pay for it)
• A clear COVID-19 'Fit to Fly' test no more than 72 hours before departure (you pay for that)
• A flight ( you arrange and pay for, and we reimburse up to THB 20k on arrival)
• Alternative State Quarantine for 15 days in Bangkok ( we pay for that)

Given the uncertainty of your actual arrival date, Your contract would normally start from your first day of work.
